Ka holo ana i Kokee

Aloha !

Just wanted to share a little bit about our trip to Kokee, Kaua'i. It was my first time up there and is was GREAT! This trip reminded me of going to Haiku, Maui. We journeyed up to Koke'e after checking out the view from the Kalalau Lookout.... it was actually a bit foggy though. As Kumu Malia shared a Oli with us a Pueo appeared out of the misty fog just a few feet away from us!! After that we went on a Plum Hunt... the plums were great .. I never had this type before... after we got a few we decended down for lunch. We also got a really cool shot of some Nene geese and had lunch at a cool little park on the way down. I have never seen so many Koa trees before and the Ohia Lehua was so nice!! Koke'e was a experience that I will never forget!! Mahalo Kumu 'Iokepa

Aloha kaua e Kumu 'Iokepa. I'm glad you enjoyed visiting one of my favorite places on the island of Kaua'i. Growing up on Kaua'i my 'ohana and I spent a lot of time in Koke'e gathering maile, mokihana, palapalai, liko lehua, plums, and other plants. We would also stay at the cabins in Koke'e for the weekend and enjoy the beauty of Koke'e.

It's always a great experience to be at Kalalau and to share mele and oli. Our 'aina and our mea kanu are so important to our daily lives that the more in tune we are with it I feel the better we are able to live our lives. I have a lot of mahalo for the 'olelo no'eau- He ali'i ka 'aina, he kauwa ke kanaka. The land is the chief, and the people are the servants. For me this means that it is our kuleana to malama our plants and animals that sustain us and will continue to sustain our generations to come.

O Kalalau pali aala ho'i e la
Ke ako ia e la e ka wahine la

aloha no, Kumu Malia

i had a lot of fun going sight seeing around kokee and I had fun gathering plums. I love nature so it was really fun gathering the plums and they tasted great. It was my second time going to Kauai so I was really excited to go back and I had so much fun. :]

Aloha Kumu! The plums we picked there were sooo tasty! It felt so cool to be able to eat them right after we picked them off the tree. It was my first time up there and I loved all the sights that we were able to see. Koke'e is a beautiful place and I will always remember how we did olis in attempt to get rid of the clouds. Though it did not work in our favor, it was still beautiful.

It was my first time too. Although it was a little cloudy I would have to say the plum hunt was great. I never eat anything just off the tree without being washed but I had to taste the plum. I was delicioso. I would have to say I had a great time in Kokee. The drive was long but it was worth it.
LOVE YOU
SAM.

Ho, ka u`i o Kōke`e!! The hō`ailona we saw while at the lookout (the Pueo), was very significant and gave me chicken skin. I could definitely feel the mana of that place. Picking plums was good fun! They taste better than the common purple plums!

I FELT PROUD THAT A PUEO APPEARED BECAUSE THE PUEO IS MY AuMAKUA. THOUGH WE COULDN'T SEE THE FANTASTIC VIEW I GOT A GLIMPSE OF IT, AND I THOUGHT IT LOOKED NICE. OH, THOSE BERRIES WERE WONDERFUL.

Koke'e was wonderful! I never seen Waimea Canyon before, or the Kalalau lookout before. I only been to Kaua'i once, and that was when I was three or four. The water spout was cool, I've never seen one before.

Now that you mentioned it, Koke'e did seem like haiku. It also seemed like going up to haleakala because it was very foggy and cool. I had a great time there.

It wasn't a little cloudy...it was straight up FOG. Couldn't see nothing. Too bad. It looked or would have been a pretty sight. Then we picked plums like wild savages. All the tourist were starting at us, and we were just eating plums in the bushes. Go figure?
