Lecture

At first lecture was hard to get through, I guess because we would all be full and tired from havng lunch right before. Even though it was somewhat tiring it gave us time to just to listen and absorb all the information we can. Dave gave two lectures about the reward system, Dennis gave two lectures based on depression and PTSD (where he also showed us a short clip from "Apocalypse Now"). Marty Kane also gave a lecture further on drug use and the psychological affects it has on the brain. She also went through appropriate alcohol intake for individuals of certain ages, and the differences of inpatient and outpatient treatment and detox treatment.

As far as lecture goes, it's really traditional, we listen for an hour and a half on topics and ideas such as the Reward system, and psychology. You gotta really find it in you to stay awake, because one time in dream land could be the difference between geting the information and not getting it.

Lecture isn't all that bad though, we have our laughs hear and there: you can see Ed sleeping in the back of the room while Dave is talking, we crack jokes, or when the professors are late from lunch we would try to invent slang words with Brian, etc.

But anyway, lectures are probably not as much fun as tutorial and conference but you still can learn the same or just as much.

I totally agree with you Kealoha, lectures may not be as entertaining as conference and tutorials but they are just as beneficial. You do need to have self-discipline to not fall asleep. And it's not because the lectures are boring, but because it's right after lunch, and near the end of the day so you feel lethargic. I especially enjoyed the lectures on our brain, drugs and PTSD. To have people of such status teaching us more about their passion is truly a honor.

Lecture... are interesting. Sad to say I sleep during this time. You can't blame me. With much effort I dont try not to though. I get tired after eating, and lecture is right after lunch, so even more reason why I sleep. But I'm listening so you can say I multi task. Most of it is done in powerpoint so its easy to follow along. But when you have people like JENN falling asleep on your shoulder.. Its hard not to give in.

LECTURES! That wonderful hour of listening to one of the professors speak about what drugs do to the brain, how the brain works, and how messages are sent to the brain. What I understood the most was Dopamine.

I agree... lectures are definitely not as fun as tutorials and conferences; thank God the professors acknowledged that. They wouldn`t make it too boring, because they knew we`d fall rigt to sleep! I still enjoyed the lectures though, because after eating lunch, we`d often be relaxed, so it was nice to be able to just listen, without having to speak and really be involved with the lesson. The lectures were so informing, I learned lots! The reward system was my fave.

That's totally true. HAH. lectures were hard at the beginning but after a while we started getting used to it. Before lecture I would drink a lot of iced tea in order for me to stay up so that I can learn something and not dose off into la la land. But yes it's very funny when I see Ed constantly wiping his eyes and falling asleep. Lecture is a very interesting session.

I also agree with Jennifer and Kealoha. Lectures may not be fun and as interesting as tutorial and conference, but you can still learn something from it. I remember learning so many information about pshychologhjy for our first lecture. I remember learning about depression and its sypmtoms, and man I did not know that depresion had so many major symptoms. It was very interesting.

Some lectures seemed to drag on very long while others seemed to go by quickly. I'll admit to it, I have dosed off several times during lectures. Lectures are when would learn a load of information, but was given to us in a packet as a visual.
