On Saturday, July 21, 2007, our Wampanoag friends (Tracy, Amanda, Grace, Ashley, Chesie, Courtney, Mike, and Thomas) hosted a luncheon for us, as well as their families. It was held in front of Harkness Commons, which is a lounge and study building near our dormitory. When everyone had arrived, we stood in a circle and introduced ourselves, said a prayer, then it was time to dig in
! It was a potluck, so there were LOADS of di

fferent foods. Everything was so delicious
! From Tracy`s jag (sort of like fried rice), to a special chili, to fried chicken, to banana cream pie. We had to sample EVERYTHING
! I`m sure I speak for everyone when I say that we were
satisfied to da max by the end of our meal.
No, the fun didn`t end right there, with the food
! We also played many games of volleyball and baseball. Some preferred to lounge on the side and watch, while simutaneously "talking story" and sharing laughs. When we all had enough of that, we gathered on the grassy area and did a bit of cultural exchange. First, the Wampanoags, clothed in their f

ull regalia, performed a few dances and songs for us. The girls displayed three types of dances: fancy, medicine, and traditional. Thomas danced a war dance for us as well. What I enjoyed the most was the eye-catching variety of color of the regalia, along with their graceful movements; it was absolutely stunning. Following the Native American dances, we danced Kāwika for them. Then, they stood up with us and learned a number of basic hula steps. Everyone was professional by the end of the basics
! It was then time for "farewells", and this concluded our wonderful
Wampanoag Style luncheon
!

Yeah the Wampanoags had some really great food I liked the jag with chili on top...and the desserts were to die for.
My favorite food that we ate at the luncheon was, the muscles and poi. On my table, we ate dozens and dozens of muscles with poi, and it tastes so good.

I enjoyed being able to watch the Wampanoags do their cultural dance in exchange for our hula. The food was sooo good, I think I had about six pieces of different cakes! Yummmmy!
Lunch was sooo much fun. I enjoyed the Wamponoags sharing their traditional dances. WE also exchanged our hula. The food was awesome. Tracy's traditional desert was soooooo good with ice cream. I ate soooo much food, I couldn't stop eating 10 times of each dish. I had a lot of fun hanging out with everyone and playing volleyball.
Thanks guys!!
Oh snap... Chelsie made me try Oysters with hot sauce. YUCK! It was slimey, salty, and had chunks of sea shell in it. The sauce burnt my tongue! Other than that, I really enjoyed the other food, like MUSCLES.yummy. And the dancing was really fun too. Not as good as eating Poi though.
I had so much fun playing volleyball. I was shocked to see that the regalia for the Wampanoag girls were very bright-colored and flashy. I would've thought their colors would be more earthy and neutral. I love the way Wampanoag Indians dance.
For me I really enjoyed eating the slump and the jag (I think that's what it's called).
The best part for me was when we played Volleyball with the Wampanoag students and their relatives. We had a blast of fun but I got a major sun burn on my face. So that wasn't cool but I still have fun anyway about it.
