Martha's Vineyard
Last week Sunday, July 15, we went to the island of Martha’s Vineyard. We had to wake up super early to get their in time for lunch. We needed to leave Boston by 6:00 am, and have an hour and a half drive to the shuttle area. From the shuttle, we had a 15 minute bus ride to the ferry. From the ferry to the island was a 45 minute boat ride, and lastly, from the boat harbor to The Tribal Center, in Aquinnah, it was 45 minutes. Two of our Na
tive American friends are from Martha’s Vineyard, Thomas Fantasia and Michael Selitti. When we arrived in Aquinnah at The Tribal Center, we started to prepare the food. For lunch we ate all kinds of food, such as steak, hot dogs, Hawaiian food, Native American food etc. At this Tribal Center, different cultures shared different cultural practices with one another. For the Hawaiian students they introduced the hula and taught the basic steps, such as the kaholo, the hela, the ‘ami and the ‘uwehe to the Native American people. For the Native Americans, they introduced all kinds of dances, such as the mosquito dance, which was my favorite dance. After the teachings of the different cultures, we went to Phillbin beach. Phillbin beach was a nice
long white sandy beach, and it was relaxing because it was very, very hot, and the water was very, very freezing. After the beach, we visited the cliff area, with the lighthouse, took pictures, and did a little shopping at the small stores up there. Lastly we went back to the Tribal Center and had a closing ceremony, and we journeyed back, repeating the exact same steps we did before; 30 minute drive to ferry, 45 minute ferry ride, 15 minute bus ride and an hour and a half drive back to Boston. The ride back was very exhilarating, because everyone was hipper and singing and dancing in their vans. Going to Martha’s Vineyard has been my favorite part of this trip so far, and I am so happy I had the opportunity to experience going to a place with such diversity, with such spirit, it was AWESOME!!

I enjoyed it at Martha's Vineyard. I liked doing the the mosquito dance and learning more abou their culture.
Out of everything we've done on this trip, Martha's Vineyard was absolutely my favorite thing. This cultural experience opened my eyes to so many new things and I'm in Love with their culture. I'm going to teach my family back at home the mosquito and circle dance and show them videos of the chants. That day was seriously a life-changing experience, I didn't want to leave and I still want to go back.

Martha's vineyard was the best!!
I had a lot of fun with everyone and getting to know our Aquinnah family, exchanging cultures.
The food was awesome. The beach was the best. Although it was cold, the water was GREAT! I couldn't stay out of the water. The atlantic is much different than the Pacific Ocean. Going there on a boat was an awesome experience that I will always remember.
Martha`s Vineyard is definitely one of my highlights of the trip thus far!! Even though we had to get up really early and drive for hours, it was totally worth it once we got there. The cultural exchange was great, and the beach was beautiful! It was my first time in an ocean other than the Pacific, so that was exciting for me! I`d love to return one day, and take my family with me.
Gay head cliffs were awesome. I can now say that I've swam in the atlantic ocean. "Stuck my toe in"..."swam"... its all the same!It was really cold. I ended up pick up rocks and shells off the beach with jenn, kayla, and kahea. (jenn got to see something extra special!) Im so mad.
I loved going to Martha's Vineyard. It's most definitely an experience I'll remember. When we went to the tribal center some of the Native Americans shared their dance with us which I enjoyed very much, and also the drumming and singing/chanting. I liked the beach because it was the Atlanic Ocean and not the Pacific Ocean, something different. I also saw a wee-tu hut in the process of being constructed. I really liked the tribal center because it was a place where everyone could gather and had historical and cultural things surrounded in the area.
Martha's Vineyard was great place and I enjoyed meeting the wonderful people in Aquinna. I met Thomas's family and his sister, Elsie. I had great time hanging out with Thomas and his family when we went to the beach. It was a whole lot of fun.
I wouldn't mind living there. I think Martha's Vineyard is a laid back and melo county. I enjoyed my time there learning new things and meeting new people.
