Marty Kane

Marty Kane was one of the speakers that we had in our speakers that we had in our lectures that talked us about the affects of drugs upon our body. She said that drugs can affect a person physically, Emotionally/Mentally, Spiritually, and can affect your body for the rest of our life. There were three levels that happens to a person after they use the drug and they are: no control of the usage of the drug, become abuse to it, and become dependent on the drug. Also, during the lecuture, she discussed with us about the type of drugs that affects our society today, if it was illegal or legal, the different categories of drugs like stimulants, hallucinogens, opiates, solvents, and benzodiazepines, and the amount of alcohol within in beer, wine, sherry, and spirits. Behavior Changes, Loss of Control, Problems-0 responsibilities, and the Drug becomes focused in their minds are the types of addictions that Marty talked to us about with also that drugs can cause changes to your physical features. Even the types of treatments that she discussed about could be a source that we could use to help us out with our final project. The types of treatments that she referred to was Motivation/Readiness, Precontenplaction-NO WAY!, Contemplation (Maybe, or maybe not), and Preparation were some of the treatments that she talked about in the story. She was a very interesting speaker to talk with and it was very enjoying to have her speak to us about the affects of drugs upon us.

As I recall, I think Mary was our recent speaker and I remember her talking about different diseaes that you can come upon, if you do a certain drug. I also thought how she explained that drugs don't only affect you body physical, but mentally.

Marty Kane was our only female speaker and it was interesting to have a change in genders (Girl Power)! She's a clinical psychologist and has her Ph.D., so it really motivated me. We discussed a lot during her lecture, but something that really stood out to me was the safe limit of alcohol consumption. For men: 2/day - 14 week, 4 at one sitting and for women: 1/day = 7 week, 2 at one sitting. I know a lot of women who drink the same, if not more than men, and it really shocked me to find that we are actually built to be not as tolerable. This safe limit seems to me on the small side as well, because I have witnessed more consumption in one sitting and now it worries me. I appreciate Marty Kane speaking to us about drugs, its effects, treatment and for opening my eyes.

Marty Kane is a very intelligent and motivating woman. I respect her for having so much passion for what she does. I could really tell through the short time we were with her, that she is very knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge with our generation. I wouldn't mind being as successful and brilliant as Marty Kane one day. (:

It was such an honor to have Marty Kane give up her precious time to give us a lecture on the psycho field. I learned many things about different drugs. Not all of them affect you in the same way. She gave many interesting facts. I was able to write them down for reference. Thank you Marty.
