All of our days spent here have been extremely tiring, and most of us are running on the most minimal hours of rest. However, everything we have experienced has been beneficial in one way or another. Our schedules just started to get more hectic since last week Monday when we had tutorials, conference, a lecture, and a dinner lecture! Before this addition of a dinner lecture, we were used to heading back to the dorms after classes.
Our first dinner lecture was with Dr. Tom Sequest, who does biostatistics and epidemiology, the tracking of diseases. He started off with giving us some background information on himself. Dr. Tom went to Cornell for chemical enginerring, but as it turned out, engineering was not for him because his needs to interact with people were not being met. His major changed his senior year to medicine. After attending Harvard Medical School, he graduated with $100,000 in debt and used this number to explain to us that we should never let finances hold us back. Dr. Tom gave us tips on how to attain scholarships, research schools and information on top Medical Schools. Our time spent at this dinner lecture was rewarding and it showed us that though our schedules were getting more rushed, we could still enjoy ourselves. I had a blast listening to what he had to say and eating Chinese food simultaneously. Mahalo to Dr. Tom Sequest for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk to juniors and seniors on how to prepare for their future.

The food was awesome! The lecture was interesting to me because he talked about how he had to get out of his community and find other opportunities so that he can fix the issues in his community. So, he went to college and seeked an education to assist his communuty after..
Chinese that night was satisfying, not so much gratifying though! Tom was interesting to the extent that you could relate to him in way pertaining to his pre-college life. Tom can be a great person to learn from and reference.
Tom was a great speaker. I could tell he was really into what he does. The lecture dinner was a great opportunity for us to ask questions. I loved the Chinese food. I got to say that was one of the best parts.
I never had a dinner lecture before and I don't want one again. Dinner and lectures just don't go. I don't have anything against lectures, it's just hard to hold the food down while trying not to sleep. He did help answer a lot of questions about the "college life", and what it takes to go to Harvard. Very educational, and healthy!
I appreciated Tom speaking to us that nigt. Even though we were all tired I enjoyed listening to his story and how he envisioned something and helped to change it.
The lecture was very interesting. Tom went through so much to get where he is today and he still wants to back to his hometown to give back to his community. Thats what you call a role model.
Tom Sequest is a very knowledgable man! I could tell that he is really passionate about what he does. His background, about not pursuing his initial dreams, was a great example for us to learn from. It`s common for people to have a desire for a particular field of study, then to switch careers at the last minute. Being as successful as he currently is, shows me that although he didn`t follow through with his initial plans, he still had the opportunity to become successful in life, for he worked hard for what he really wanted.
